|Ashley trained in Theatre Design at Trent Polytechnic,
Nottingham, graduating in 1986. He has designed numerous shows for
theatres and companies around the UK and has always been very hands-on
in terms of scene painting and prop making. His theatre designs have
ranged through classical drama, new plays, musicals, pantomimes, dance
work and outdoor promenade performances. During his freelance career he
built up several healthy, productive relationships with UK theatres. He
has also had forays into television and the design of short, low budget
Since 1997 he has been a design lecturer at The Liverpool Institute For Performing Arts and is currently the Course Leader for Theatre and Performance Design. He teaches a wide range of design and making skills to undergraduate students and has instigated and directed a wide range of site-specific performance projects.
He is the co-founder of a new puppet company “Planning A Trifle” and is currently working on the final version of their first show “Front Window”.
